More companies are adopting greener policies. In support of this crucial trend, Agfa Graphics, an early proponent of greener printing technologies, policies and procedures, created the Agfa Environmental Recognition Awards in 2007. That program was expanded and later evolved into GreenWorks™. Today, Agfa's GreenWorks program supports and recognizes print service providers that are proactively involved in sustainability initiatives.

To become part of Agfa's GreenWorks program, printing companies must be current users of Agfa's ThermoFuse™ platemaking technology. This includes the top-selling, chemistry-free: Azura TS plate and the low-chemistry :Amigo plate, both of which have significantly reduced the impact on the environment as compared to conventional digital or analog plates.

Recently, Agfa expanded the program requirements to include :Energy Elite users. :Energy Elite is a no-bake thermal plate that produces robust, reliable and consistent press performance. With :Energy Elite, the reduction in chemistry use space and energy savings are considerable.

In addition to the aforementioned product requirements, GreenWorks nominees must also demonstrate active participation in other environmental initiatives such as recycling or waste reduction programs, use alternative energy and or other verifiable eco-friendly processes within their plants and shops.
