Arby's Wears New Cowboy Hat

A highly abstract form of the Arby’s iconic cowboy hat is at the center of a brand relaunch by the sandwich chain. Other elements include a new advertising campaign and redesigned site. The revamped logo, the first since 1975, is said to have been developed in a partnership between Alcone Marketing and Adrienne Weiss Corporation. Driving the overall creative effort is Crispin Porter + Bogusky, which became Arby’s creative agency last winter. A new tagline, “Slicing Up Freshness,” reflects the chain’s pride in freshly slicing meats in its stores, and is the theme of quirky tv spots directed by Larry Charles of “Borat” and “Religulous” fame. “We’ve made small but significant changes designed to contemporize the look without losing what our most devoted customers love ‒ namely the hat,” says Russ Klein, Arby’s CMO. “The most significant elements, the lowercase font and the apostrophe slicer icon, are details that communicate our point of differentiation, that we freshly slice meats daily in our restaurants.”
