Herman Miller Asks
‘Why Design?’

What are you passionate about? This is the question Hello Design, a Los Angeles-based digital creative agency, asked Herman Miller’s designers for the brand’s “Why Design” series. The agency travelled around the world filming, photographing and documenting eight legendary Herman Miller designers for a website created to highlight their inspirations and help Herman Miller fans and design enthusiasts see the world through the eyes of their favorite designers. The first film features Yves Béhar ‒ who created the award-winning SAYL chair in 2010 ‒ and subsequent films are rolling out each week. The series covers not only design, but diverse topics ranging from photography, to paper sculptures, to food. “With Why Design our aim was to focus, not on the designer’s work specifically, but on the person behind the design and what drives and inspires them,” said David Lai, CEO and Creative Director of Hello Design.
