PUBLISHER'S NOTE: PEOPLE WHO NEED PEOPLE
For more than four decades 'Graphics People,' our straightforward roundup of the comings and goings of graphic designers, has been a distinctive editorial element of Graphic Design USA. Its value is occasionally questioned: a recent blog, not the first and surely not the last, likened it to the pages of a high school yearbook. But this misunderestimates the point, as our lame duck leader might say. The simple and consistent compilation recognizes and celebrates new jobs, promotions, achievements, transformations, milestones, aspirations. For every cynic and pseudo-intellect who takes a cheap shot, there are hundreds of readers who have told me they find pleasure and even motivation in seeing what their colleagues are doing, and that looking at 'Graphics People' makes them feel part of a broader community. In this spirit, we have whipped up a special enews version of 'Graphics People' for your consideration.
Please Recycle
In last month's GDUSA Green Enews, we reported that the Direct Marketing Association has launched an initiative to encourage consumers to recycle catalogs and mixed paper. We have since learned — with a special thanks to Rick Huntoon of National Envelope — that the program has much broader reach than we realized. Indeed, the Please Recycle program is sponsored by the Envelope Manufacturers Association and the Magazine Publishers Association, as well as the Direct Mail Association. These organizations have received the endorsement of the Environmental Protection Agency to use the Please Recycled logo to encourage consuemrs and customers to recycle mailing materials. More on this topic in next week's GDUSA Green Enews. http://www.envelope.org

In the course of a career that spanned nearly 60 years, Ms. Kinne helped build two stock agencies, mentored numerous photographers and aspiring stock agents, led several industry trade groups, and worked as a business and legal consultant.

"There were no business models, there were no norms, there was no pricing, no standards, and no guidelines. All that was being built and she was right there in the thick of it. The industry owes her a lot."
Ms. Kinne was an active member of the PACA and the ASPP, serving as president of both organizations She and her husband of 50 years, Russ Kinne, were founding members of the NANPA, for which she also served as president. From 1995 to 1998, she was a member of the United States Copyright Office's Working Committee on Fair Use & New Technologies. Ms. Kinne became a nationally recognized expert in the area of copyright law as it applies to photographic images, and had consulted or testified as an expert witness in more than 500 cases before the U.S. Courts and the American Arbitration Association. She had appeared as a speaker and panelist at numerous photographic expositions and workshops over the years.
