THOMAS BAKER, JODI DRAHEIM
Neenah WI: Directions Incorporated sharpens its creative edge with a new art director and a graphic artist. As art director, Thomas Baker is developing creative strategies, concepts and content for a variety of agency clients. Baker came to the firm from Fort James Corporation, where he served as art director and graphics system administrator. He holds a BFA in illustration from the Milwaukee Institute of Art and Design and a degree in graphic design from the Madison Area Technical College. Jodi Draheim, in her role as graphic artist for the agency's packaging design group, is creating computer art, and taking projects from rough design concepts to final production stages. Previously, Draheim was a graphic designer at Art Bookbinders of America. She holds a BFA from the University of Wisconsin-Stout. Directions Incorporated serves business and consumer clients through its packaging design group, and advertising and marketing communications group.

Rockford IL: Manifesto Advertising invites Renée Kremer to its design team. In her new role, Kremer drives creative design for many of the agency's print and multimedia projects, and serves as the lead online media designer. With more than 10 years of experience as a designer, she has worked with healthcare, financial services, education, manufacturing and aviation industries. She has also earned several prestigious awards from the likes of the Addy Awards, Bank Marketing Association and Women in Communications Awards. Kremer is a graduate of Iowa State University where she earned a bachelor of fine arts in graphic design.

Charlotte NC: Gary Frey joins Axiom Creative Group as president. Frey comes to Axiom with more than 17 years of management and branding experience. Most recently, he served as president of bizjournals.com, which was named by Forbes as "Best of the Web" in May 2000, and recently consummated a strategic partnership with Microsoft. Axiom Creative Group is an integrated branding and design firm with a reputation of producing work that is "Anything but Ordinary." The firm's chief creative officer, Brian Hill, was named by Graphic Design:usa among the 50 people to watch in 2001.
DON TAYLOR, JR.
Syracuse NY: Don Taylor, Jr. climbs the ranks at MRA to become art director. Taylor signed on with the firm in 1999 as a junior art director. Previously, he worked as a consultant and designer for Business Vision and as a web developer for Henderson-Johnson, Inc. MRA provides advertising, public relations, interactive, design and direct marketing services to a variety of regional, national and international clients, including Welch Allyn, CTIA Wireless, Schick Technologies and Verizon Wireless.

New York NY: Rob Swan joins Lipson Alport Glass & Associates as creative director. In this position, his responsibilities include managing and providing the creative vision for the firm's New York design efforts. In the past, Swan was a design director at Hughes Design Group and an associate partner at Port Miolla Associates.

Cincinnati OH: Former designer and director of production services, Robert Remley steps up to his new post at Libby Perszyk Kathman as vice president, chief technology officer. With the title comes overall responsibility for the planning and implementation of LPK digital process, equipment and policy. Remley is a 1984 graphic design graduate of the Eastern Kentucky University.

Vero Beach FL: Joining the creative staff of DHI Visual Communication in the firm's Florida office is Jonathan Bowering. He is a senior designer who previously spent four years as art director at Doubletake Advertising & Marketing in Melbourne, FL, as well as holding several designer positions in the Boston area. He graduated from The Art Institute of Boston. DHI has offices in Chicago, as well as Vero Beach.

Boston MA: Creative director is the new title for Kathie Coe Renner at the Philip Johnson Associates advertising and marketing firm. Coe Renner will work on various accounts with creative director Hugh Kennedy. STEVE KRONE, RICH NORTON
Springfield MO: The Marlin Company raises Steve Krone to the position of art director and adds Rich Norton to the design staff as creative designer. In their new roles, Krone and Norton design concepts for clients such as Kellogg's, Saputo Cheese and Portion Pak. Initially, Krone came to the company in 1992 as an intern and began working as a designer in 1995. Among other accolades, he is nationally recognized for his Bonkers candy package design. Krone holds a BFA from Southwest Missouri State University. Norton also started at Marlin as an intern; he is a recent graduate of Southwest Missouri State University.

Burlington VT: Lisaius Marketing ups Dana Murphy to creative services manager. Murphy's duties include the production and trafficking of all design work for the agency. Lisaius Marketing is a graphic design studio and marketing company which specializes in creating innovative artwork and marketing materials for a range of national and local clients such as Blockbuster Video, A&E, and Showtime Entertainment.

Boston MA: Dan Nearing rejoins EMI Strategic Marketing as creative director. Over the past two years, Nearing was a senior art director with Mullen where he was responsible for all creative development and design, as well as supporting print and collateral, for the GM Credit Card account. He began his career with EMI in 1989 and has done work for clients such as AT&T, Ameritech and Fleet Financial Group. Venice CA: Emmy-winning motion graphics designer Tim Brown joins Blur Studio. Formerly the creative director at Hollywood design and animation house RezN8, Brown is co-creative director of the graphics design division of Blur Studio. He hopes to capitalize on Blur's momentum and build the studio into a major player in design for broadcast, film and other media. The Blur design team recently created packages for two Fox Network shows, The TV Guide Awards, and an open for The Learning Channel. It recently produced graphics packages for The Billboard Music Awards, Super Bowl's Greatest Commercials and campaigns for the U.S. Army Reserves and Toyota. Brown is a graduate of Virginia Commonwealth University.

Carlstadt NJ: Pantone, the preeminent color communications company, promotes Richard Herbert to president and Lisa Herbert to executive vice president. Richard Herbert was formerly an executive vice president and has led Pantone's thrust into electronic media. Lisa Herbert now takes on the role of executive vice president in charge of the Textile, Home and Fashion, and TheRightColor divisions, areas she has pioneered within the company. The moves are to fulfill founder Lawrence Herbert's vision of expanding into new markets and new media. New York NY: A former chief technology architect at Digital Channel Partners who held similar positions at Organic and at EuroRSCG Worldwide, Julian Bleecker has been named senior vice president, chief technology officer at Sterling Group. Within this position he is responsible for developing and implementing the strategy for delivering technology projects to the firm's clients.
DAVID E. HARKINS
Chalfont PA: David E. Harkins is business manager, paper merchants and distributors, at International Holographic Paper. Harkins oversees the expanding distribution of IHP's holographic board and paper products through the paper merchant channel and, ultimately, to the packaging, publishing and design communities. Previously, he has held management positions at Ziff-Davis and McGraw-Hill.

Wright was previously employed at the University of Kentucky, where she was senior graphic artist in the Ideas and Icons department which she helped name and found. Norwalk CT: Kodak Polychrome Graphics appoints graphic arts veteran Vic Stalam to vice president, chief marketing and business development officer. Stalam is providing direction for the manufacturer's strategic business planning and development strategies. His focus: long-term planning, growth opportunities in traditional, hybrid and digital technology development, strategic business alliances, industry relationships and trends, and worldwide strategic marketing.

Colorado Springs CO: Barnstorm Visual Communications recruits Aaron Dean Sauer, who is now one of the new creative directors. Amsterdam, The Netherlands: 180, the international creative agency, names Ollie Watson a partner. Watson takes on the role of creative director,i bringing the number of partners to six. This appointment comes at a time when the renowned Amsterdam-based agency is enjoying significant growth.

Valley Forge PA: Ed Dugan joins Weyerhaeuser Fine Paper's southern regional sales team, with account manager responsibilities in Georgia and the Carolinas. Dugan has a broad range of experience in the marketing and sales of commercial printing papers. He worked with Weyerhaeuser from 1973 to 1982, then rejoined the company in 1995. Dugan is a graduate of Villanova and Temple Universities.
RILEY PALMER, ANDREA WILLIS
Dallas TX: Eisenberg And Associates hires Riley Palmer as graphic designer and Andrea Willis as production artist. Palmer is a recent graduate of the Portfolio Center where she specialized in packaging and graphic design. During her studies she won several regional and national awards for her work. Her creative responsibilities include concept and design. Willis, before being brought aboard by E&A, accumulated four years of design and production experience working at several companies such as Aegis Group, Youngevity, and Learning Path International. Willis's duties consist of production on various jobs, quality control issues, and print production.
THOM HANSSEN, GRANT BLOEDOW
Minneapolis MN: Mammoth, a business-to-business marketing firm, welcomes senior art director Thom Hanssen and production artist Grant Bloedow to the agency's creative team. Hanssen comes to Mammoth via the freelance world, having worked with many different companies and ad agencies. He brings with him more than 20 years of design and art direction experience. Bloedow joins the agency from H.B. Fuller, where he was an inhouse designer and production artist for the past four years. Mammoth has annual billings exceeding $9 million.
JEN KILCOYNE, ADAM MURDOCH, WENDY WEST
Portland OR: ID, Incorporated has promoted Jen Kilcoyne and Adam Murdoch to graphic designer positions, and named Wendy West an account executive. Kilcoyne and Murdoch were previously production designers with the firm, while West comes over from Nike Team Sports, where as operations manager she developed the team apparel service group and worked with professional and collegiate athletic directors to define and fulfill team apparel contracts. ID specializes in strategic branding and positioning, name development, logo design, and brand-building programs constructed with both print and interactive communications. Founded 21 years ago, the company's clients include Chrome, Digimarc, H-P, MedicaLogic/Medscape, Oregon Creative Services Alliance, and WorldVoice, among others.

Irvine CA: RiechesBaird, a business-to-business branding agency, adds art director Holly Mueller. She is responsible for conceptual design and visual direction for print and online advertising pieces. As a design intern at USWeb CKS, her duties included preparing graphics for the web and preliminary design layout. Mueller holds a bachelor's degree in visual communications/graphic design from the School of Visual Arts in New York.

Alexandria VA: Glass Packaging Institute elects Joseph J. Cattaneo president of the association. For the past eight years, Cattaneo has served as GPI's executive vice president, overseeing marketing and public affairs activities, office management and regional programs. "I am honored to serve as the new president of the GPI and look forward to continuing and expanding our work on behalf of the North American glass container industry." Prior to joining the association, Cattaneo was a partner at Gunder & Associates, the Columbus, Ohio, advertising agency. His advertising experience also included account supervision positions at Fahlgren & Swink, Inc. and Howard Swink Advertising. While at all three agencies, he coordinated GPI's industry union promotion program. GPI's many activities include legislative monitoring and lobbying, an awards program for glass packaging, brochures and publications geared toward glass manufacturers and packagers.

Racine WI: Design North hires two, Gem Araff and Katie Pierce. Araff, who joins the design group, has held similar positions at Landor Associates, Tong McKnew Associates and Grey Advertising. It is his work at these firms that has enabled him to handle prestigious clients such as Panasonic, Hasbro, Sprint, Philip Morris, Maxwell House, Kraft Foods and Miller Brewing. At Design North he is involved in packaging design, brand development and corporate identification. Pierce is the new purchasing/traffic manager. In the past, she has worked at Delzer Lithography and HM Graphics. In her new position, she handles all outside purchasing and project coordination for clients. Design North specializes in strategic design for marketing in the areas of branding, packaging design, corporate communications and identity. Their client roster includes: Asea Brown Bovari, Birds Eye Brands, CarX, ConAgra, Fox River Paper Company, General Mills, Heinz USA, Hewlett-Packard, Quaker Oats, and others.

New York NY: Global entertainment marketing communications company Pittard Sullivan appoints Jason Alan Snyder to the position of vice president, head of interactive, and creative director. In this new post, Snyder is responsible for direction, conceptualization and strategy in the development of interactive and convergent communications on behalf of PS's clients. He brings with him experience in broadcast, print and interactive technologies coupled with innovative approaches to creative problem solving. The firm's growing engagements to develop branding, marketing, and user experience solutions for interactive television and video on demand services facilitated the need for Snyder's addition. Before coming to the firm, Morse was a graphic designer for Standard and Poor's Published Image. "Lynne's experience with Fortune 500 clients makes her a great addition to our team," said Josh Weinstein, creative director. Morse holds a degree in graphic design from Colby-Sawyer College.

New York: Kaleidoscope Imaging Inc. has appointed Garo Kasparian to the position of vice president of production. In this role, he will be responsible for process development, operations and engineering for the New York office. Kasparian's range of industry experience includes several technical positions as well as developing systems for packaging comps and mockups. Hudson NH: Presstek, Inc., a leading developer of thermal direct imaging and printing plate technologies for the graphic arts industry, appoints Stan Najmr as director of digital imaging marketing. Najmr, previously with Scitex America (now CreoScitex), handles the promotion of Presstek's ID capability to press manufacturers worldwide, as well as the management of existing DI customer and partner projects. Says Najmr: "It's very motivating to be involved with a company moving forward with impressive technologies and solid, deliverable vision." Najmr has also held active and visible roles with NAFTA, as part of its worldwide steering committee.

High Point NC: Tatum Toomey & Whicker names Kevin Cea its creative director. Most recently director of creative services with Merant Interactive, Cea is returning to TTW after nearly 13 years. As the agency's first senior art director in the mid-80s, he was instrumental in helping the firm establish a reputation beyond the local market. Now the firm welcomes him back to a creative position. "The partners are very happy to have the creative reins back in Kevin's hands," principal Dick Toomey said. "He brings a wealth of experience, spanning many marketing disciplines." Established in 1983, TTW has a diversified portfolio in telecommunications, healthcare, home fashions, pharmaceutical, industrial and financial sectors.

Reeves began his career with GPO in 1976 as a printing assistant in the quality control and technical department and later moved to the planning office as an information management specialist. Orlando FL: Tracey Ellegiers is now managing the creative department at Magic Pencil Studios. Prior to joining the marketing and creative services agency, Ellegiers was an art director at various agencies working on projects for the likes of Dr. Pepper, Southwest Airlines, Disney Cruise Line, Tupperware, Tyson Foods, and Bausch & Lomb. Magic Pencil Studios was founded by former Disney marketeers Scott Feldmann and Lisa Yee, with a client roster including Disney, Red Lobster, AOL and others.
