New York NY: Creative studio Trollbäck & Company recently celebrated its fifth anniversary with a blowout party at the Art Directors Club in Manhattan. More than 700 guests danced to hot Cuban orchestra Jose Conde Y Ola Fresca and the renowned DJ Spooky in the main gallery and a tucked-away champagne bar upstairs. Using 15 video and slide projectors, the Trollbäck team surrounded the crowd with monumental wraparound installations. At party's end, everyone received a goody-bag of DVDs, DJ Spooky and Jose Conde CDs, t-shirts and a card noting that the host had donated more than one percent of gross 2003 income to eight staff-selected charities.

Boston MA: Two award-winning creative talents, Joe Fallon and Tim Vaccarino, join the creative ranks of Modernista! as associate creative directors. Previously, Vaccarino was an associate creative director at Arnold Worldwide working on the Volkswagen account, and Fallon was a senior copywriter at Arnold and part of the new business team that won the Royal Caribbean account. Vaccarino began his career with Leonard/Monahan, and came over to Arnold to work on the Fleet, Nynex and McDonalds accounts. Modernista! clients include General Motors, Hummer, Anheuser-Busch, TIAA-CREF and Veryfine.

Stamford CT: Walker Digital Management promotes RamÛn Peralta to creative director. Formerly art director for priceline.com, a company founded by Walker, he has also served as a senior art director for Walker's design group. His specialties include logos, p-o-p, direct response, sales presentations and marketing collateral design. Peralta also retains an independent design practice. He was recently appointed to the Connecticut Chapter of March of Dimes.

New York NY: Odgis + Company welcomes Nicole Gunther to its design team. Gunther had previously worked at Davis Brody Bond, LLP Architects. She has experience in print, interactive media and video. Gunther is a graduate of Cooper Union. Janet Odgis heads the graphic design firm.

St. Paul MN: Paul Acito, the Commercial Graphics sales and marketing director at 3M, is appointed to the board of judges and advisors of the New York Festivals (NYF). At 3M, Acito is responsible for the worldwide marketing and sales activities of the Commercial Graphics division. His aim at NYF is to expand the media festival group's purview. In conjunction with the appointment, the category of fleet graphics ‚ a 3M specialty ‚ has been added to the event's 2004 International Design, Print & Outdoor Advertising Awards.

Prior to joining the agency, she spent five years as art director at Foti & Lazo. Arcuri is a graduate of the Fashion Institute of Technology. Captains of Industry is an advertising and marketing communications agency focused on the life sciences and healthcare.

She brings ten years of experience in design, marketing and management to the post, having worked at the Sapient Internet consultancy and at Human Code. A University of Texas graduate, her work in the interactive area gained her recognition from the Austin Ad Society, Communication Arts and a listing among the Top 100 Producers in AV Multimedia Magazine.

Palo Alto CA: Randy Cox, the founder of Cox Design, is head the 2004-2005 executive board of directors of the Western Art Directors Club. Other newly elected board members include Vice President/Programs Leah Smith, Abandon Design; Vice President/Operations David Shultz, Larsen Design + Interactive; and Executive Secretary Kenneth Williams, Kenneth Associates. The dozen-person advisory board is made up of longstanding members Lawrence Bender, Alice Carter, Georgia Deaver, Charles Fillhardt, Hall Kelley, Russell Leong, RJ Muna, Stephanie Paulson, Sam Smidt, Lauren Smith, Mr. (Rick) Tharp and Carol Turner. This is the club's 43rd anniversary.

In the new post, she brings considerable print production expertise and experience to bear to develop educational and support initiatives for merchants, printers and the design community. Mohawk is a leading manufacturer of premium printing papers.

Pittsburgh PA: Jay Giesen is the new vice president, group creative director, at Blattner Brunner. In this new role, Giesen is responsible for creative leadership on clients including Knouse Foods, Sky Bank, Atria's Restaurant & Tavern and Zippo. Giesen, a graduate of Portfolio Center, has been a creative director and principal at The Pittsburgh Agency, and held creative posts at Egan St. James and MARC-USA. Blattner Brunner has annual billings of more than $130 million.

San Anslemo CA: Ken Gilliam is now managing director at Axion Design. A veteran in the fields of integrated branding and product design, Gilliam brings more than 20 years of experience to the post. Prior to Axion, Gilliam headed his own brand consultancy, where he managed strategic brand development for companies including Wells Fargo, E-Trade and REDmedic. Before that, he was vice president, general manager at Fitch and senior brand consultant at Landor Associates. Gilliam is additionally a frequent speaker on branding and design excellence. Axion is an award-winning strategic brand development, package design and integrated marketing communications firm whose clients include Clorox, Frito Lay and HP.

San Francisco CA: Christopher Simmons has become a principal of Alterpop. He joins founding principals Doug Akagi and Dorothy Remington in the respected graphic design studio. Recently named a "Person to Watch" by Graphic Design usa, for the past five years Simmons has been responsible for creating and managing a wide variety of projects. Though he will continue as an active designer, he now takes on greater responsibilities in the day to day management and leadership of the firm. Simmons is credited with playing a key role in transforming Alterpop from its previous incarnation as Akagi Remington back in 2001. "We knew this day was coming," he says of the decision to reposition the studio. "Part of the name change was to allow for the inclusion of new principals." The other part, he says, was to reinvigorate the group and its commitment to exploring new methodologies.

Los Angeles CA/Amsterdam Netherlands: Veterans of Wieden+Kennedy and Microsoft have launched a new creative firm called 72andSunny. Having spearheaded advertising and branding initiatives for the likes of Nike, Microsoft, Coca-Cola, Miller and Vodafone, John Boiler, Glenn Cole, Robert Nakata and Greg Perlot plan, in the words of Boller, "to stretch ourselves creatively and to further blur the distinction between design and advertising. Face it - the idea that advertising equates to a commercial or print ad is pretty antiquated. We're trying to redefine the concept of 'ad agency' to reflect that notion." 72andSunny is already agency of record for the Holland-based stroller company Bugaboo, and has been awarded projects for USA Network, the Portland Trail Blazers (in collaboration with Nerve) and Musicmatch. Robert Nakata, one of Europe's preeminent creative voices, is recognized for successfully merging the disciplines of design and advertising in this work. He joined W+K Amsterdam in 1993 and has been been a major influence on the visual culture of the agency and on the Nike account. John Boiler is a W+K veteran in the U.S. and Europe, and formerly executive creative director of the Amsterdam office. Fellow 72andSunny partner Glenn Cole was most recently W+K European creative director on Nike. Cole also helped launch the Audi A2 across Europe, and was instrumental in building the Nike brand in soccer. Greg Perlot most recently served as a senior vice president at Publicis|West, and was formerly director of advertising and corporate research at Microsoft Corporation, where he was responsible for the worldwide launch of the "Where Do You Want to Go Today?" campaign and Windows 95. At Microsoft he collaborated with W+K, where he met Boiler, Cole and Nakata, thus planting the seed for 72andSunny.

Omaha NE: Advertising agency Bozell & Jacobs names Charity Naujokaitis and Wendy Biernbaum as art directors. The partner in charge of creative, Robert Mucciaccio, made the announcement. Naujokaitis came to the agency in 1999 as a graphic designer working on print campaigns for First National Bank, ACI, Lauritzen Botanical Gardens, VT Industries and Henry Doorly Zoo. She began her career at Orent Graphics doing production work. Biernbaum joined the agency in 2001 and has worked on several accounts such as ACI, Tneme, College World Series of Omaha, Liz's Legacy, Gabriel Technologies and VT Industries. Mucciaccio lauded their design work and described the two as "respected members of our creative team."

Whitehouse Station NJ: James Kanowitz has joined eGolfScore as the creative manager. Before joining the wireless golf scoring company, Kanowitz ran his own graphic and web design company. He also partnered with Gary Vitti, head athletic trainer of the Los Angeles Lakers, to create SportsMedProducts.com, an ecommerce site. Konowitz is a St. Johns University product.

Atlanta GA: see see eye president and creative director Terry Davis is the recipient of the 2004 Talmadge Award given by Oglethorpe University. Davis, who founded the design firm which specializes in stakeholder communications, graduated cum laude from Oglethorpe in 1982 and has been an active alumna. Most recently, she has helped transform Oglethorpe University's brand image and website, as well as serving on its Board of Trustees. Each year, the Oglethorpe National Alumni Association Board of Directors selects an outstanding alumnus or alumna to receive the Talmadge Award.

Fort Lauderdale FL: Starmark International appoints Jamie Ezra Mark to the position of art director. Mark is primarily responsible for conceptualizing and designing publications for clients of Dialog Custom Media, a Starmark subsidiary involved in the publishing of customer magazines and brand loyalty tools. Mark's nearly 15 years of experience repositioning some widely recognized national magazines included time at Time, Inc.'s Weight Watchers Magazine. Prior to that, he transformed Arthritis Today from a controlled circulation association magazine into a mass-market consumer publication. Just before joining the Starmark team, Mark headed his own agency, JEM Creative, in Atlanta, handling design assignments for the likes of Digital South Magazine, The Brand Consultancy and International Sports Pavilion. Mark's professional career has also included creative positions with the Professional Graphics Network in Detroit and Bang! Studios in Atlanta.

New York NY: Carrying on with its internal expansion, age fotosotck adds Núria Font as marketing and communication global director. She coordinates external communication and marketing for the offices in Spain and the USA, as well as assessing communication issues to over 70 agents that distribute age fotostock's pictures worldwide. Alfonso Gutiérrez, ceo, states: "... everyday our images reach the most unsuspected places on the planet. It is one of the wonders of the internet, whose technology and development we have been dedicated to for the last ten years. For this reason we have appointed ... a person with strong skills in the challenges and needs of the Information Society." Font has been commercial communication manager in Al-Pi telecommunications and Grupo Uni2, and previously worked at Managed Training Services, UK.
