Five posters won top honors in Agfa's seventh annual Young Creatives Contest, which invited college students worldwide to graphically interpret the theme of "The Power of Print." Students aged 17-30 were asked to create a poster that expresses how print influences them and the audience. More than 1,000 entries were received. The winners will travel to Belgium this summer to sightsee and attend educational workshops. Additionally, the designs were printed on large format printing presses at the Drupa tradeshow in Germany, and are currently displayed on Agfa's website. The contest, officials note, "is just one of the ways Agfa reminds designers everywhere that because it is tangible and has greater permanence than other media, print remains one of the most powerful ways of reaching and influencing consumers." With true luxury, says Jonathan Ford, creative partner at Pearlfisher, less is often more. In that vein, his firm developed the design concept for a new super-premium vodka from V&S Absolut Spirits. The name Level underscores the product's positioning as a perfectly balanced vodka, achieved by a combination of two distillation methods for smoothness and character, while the sheer touch of the bottle is combined with the simple idea of using a metallic silhouette of the Absolut bottle embedded in the glass. The firm worked closely with Eric Näf, director of product development at V&S Absolut Spirits.

The lunchbox as fashion statement? The Smithsonian probes that question in a fun retrospective display, "Taking America To Lunch," which covers lunchbox design from the 1880s to the 1980s. David Hasselhoff, Shirley Jones, June Lockhart and Meadowlark Lemon are among the luminaries whose faces adorn the boxes and who helped open the display, which is open now. Another major supporter is Thermos, makers of many of the famous boxes and bottles. David Shay is cultural history curator at the Smithsonian.

New York's bid to host the 2012 Olympic Games is symbolized by this split image logo, which debuted recently via animation on giant screens in Times Square. The logo was designed by Bill Darling of Ogilvy & Mather, under the creative direction of Ogilvy executive director Brian Collins. Ogilvy's Brand Integration Group is working pro bono to unify marketing efforts; the animation film was contributed by Trollbäck & Co. and legendary filmmaker Bud Greenspan. Deputy mayor Daniel L. Doctoroff is founder of the NYC2012 organizing committee.
