New York NY: Randy Herbertson is now president of Carbone Smolan Agency. The recent appointment marks a new era for the branding and design firm. Co-founder Leslie Smolan says, "After 25 years of working with corporate, cultural and consumer clients, CSA is ready to build on our success and expand." Herbertson is providing organizational leadership and heading business development initiatives. With 24 years of marketing experience, from posts at the WPP and Omnicom agency networks to Condé Nast, Allied Domecq and E&J Gallo, he has seen the industry from the client, consulting and media angles, in both entrepreneurial and corporate contexts. Comments Ken Carbone: "We have always taken pride in the diversity of our work. New York NY: Siegel & Gale appoints Howard G. Belk chief creative officer of its flagship New York office, announced S&G chairman and president Alan Siegel. Belk reports to Linda Cornelius, managing director. "Howard 's impressive blend of creativity, strategic ability, client relationship skills and proven management experience will be a tremendous asset as Siegel & Gale continues to grow," says Cornelius. "His cross-media experience is ideally suited to Siegel & Gale 's capabilities." Having earned a reputation for creative excellence over the last 23 years, Belk was most recently group director at Interbrand, New York, where he led multidisciplinary strategic and creative teams in the creation and management of brand strategies. He began his career as a designer in 1981, founding Belk Mignogna Associates in 1988. That firm was acquired in 1999, and for the next three years he served as president and chief operating officer at Red Sky Interactive. Belk has taught design at the University of the Arts in Philadelphia, and served on the Advisory Board at Appleton Papers for three years. He earned a B.F.A. from University of the Arts in 1981.

Durham NC: Advertising agency The Republik recruits Chris Barlett to be interactive director. The position - like Bartlett, also new - entails developing websites, online games, viral marketing and animation for all accounts. Prior to The Republik Bartlett was most recently director of new media at Crocker/Flanagan. Before that he was lead designer at Jel, a web development firm. He has also worked in animation at Dreamworks Television and served as creative consultant for Lucasfilm 's marketing launch of Star Wars: Episode III. Bartlett studied design at Cal State, Sacramento.

Pittsburgh PA: Jill Trimble is now associate creative director/art director at Blattner Brunner, where she will work on print and broadcast for Respironics and Penn Telecom, among others. Previously an associate creative director at Mullen Pittsburgh, during her tenure there Trimble worked on Highmark Blue Cross Blue Shield, PPG and the Pennsylvania Center for Travel and Tourism. She also art directed projects for Rite Aid, Sheetz and the Make-A-Wish Foundation at Marc-USA. Trimble trained at the Art Institute of Pittsburgh and the Commercial Art Program at Choffin Career Center. Blattner Brunner 's annual billings exceed $130 million, and the firm claims a staff of more than 100.

Charlotte NC: BOLT remodels its home improvement team with the addition of graphic designers Joey Ellis and Ben Gelnett. They will be developing brands, product graphics, packaging, environmental graphics and marketing solutions for BOLT 's growing roster of home improvement clients, Lowe 's, Broan-NuTone, Irwin Industrial Tools, Rubbermaid, Hunter Fan and UnionTools, among them. Ellis holds a B.A. in graphic design and illustration from East Carolina University, and formerly worked as a graphic designer for the product design firm Velocity. After earning a B.F.A. in graphic design from Savannah College of Art & Design, Gelnett served as design manager for Alpak Container Corporation. BOLT describes its mission as "creating and building powerful and complete brand experiences through integrated brand development, product design and retail environments."

Hackettstown NJ: Anthem Worldwide names Bob Fucinato creative director of its Hackettstown NJ office. He is now responsible for design work on the agency 's global consumer brand packaging accounts. Prior to Anthem Fucinato was design director at The Bailey Group. Earlier in his career, Fucinato filled the same post at LPK and Marietta Corporation. In each case he played a key role in the development of strategic brand packaging design for global food, beverage, personal care and pharmaceutical brands. Fucinato is a graduate of the University of Buffalo, where he earned a B.F.A. in communications design.

Racine WI: Pamela Kramer is welcomed as new communications coordinator for Design North. Public relations, marketing program coordination and new business development support will be her concerns.

San Francisco CA: The global creative agency, ATTIK, announces that Patrick McFarlane will join its staff as executive producer and head of production. ATTIK is creative agency of record for Scion, the new car marque from Toyota Motor Sales, USA, and McFarlane will oversee production and delivery of elements for the first national campaign for Scion, as well as for other accounts. Formerly with Pittard Sullivan, he oversaw production for print, packaging, film, video, radio, convergent, interactive and wireless media for ABC, AT&T Wireless, Columbia TriStar Home Entertainment, Disney, Fandango, FOX, Liberty Digital, MGM, NBC, TIVO, Warner Brothers and other clients. McFarlane began his career designing on-air promotions for UPN 's advertising and marketing division. He is a graduate of Santa Clara University.

Cincinnati OH: Libby Perszyk Kathman announces three hires and a promotion. Former account executive Tina O 'Connor has been promoted to the position of brand design strategist. She will assume leadership responsibilities for Folgers brand identity initiatives. O 'Connor is a graduate of the University of Cincinnati, and previously worked for Lipson Alport Glass and Kreienik Advertising. Michelle Kost is a new hire. The Miami University psychology graduate now serves as brand account leader for the Swiffer and Mr. Clean accounts. Another recent hire is Tom Sgouris. He fills the position of senior designer, executing creative leadership for a variety of brands. Finally, Keli Oelerich was hired as production director. The Central Academy of Commercial Arts (Cincinnati) graduate comes to LPK from Fisher Design, and now directs Herbal Essences and Clairol Color print projects.

Seattle WA: In a strategic move to maximize sales leadership on the East Coast, Corbis names Steve Wakeen vice president of East Coast sales and service. Wakeen will focus on developing accounts and creating new business. With 24 years of sales experience, Wakeen most recently held the post of managing director at Chadwick Communications, a brand strategy firm based in New York City. He has also played executive management roles at several notable advertising, publishing and marketing companies, including TBWA/Chiat/Day, Grey Worldwide and ESPN: The Magazine. Wakeen will be based in Corbis ' New York office and report to Lynn Brantley, Corbis 's vice president of sales and service for the Americas. He holds a B.A. in English literature from the University of Connecticut.

Carlstadt NJ: Pantone names William "Buzz" Apostol vice president of sales, Western Hemisphere. In this position Apostol will manage sales efforts in North and South America, with responsibility for overall sales strategy and growth. He brings to Pantone over 25 years of experience in printing, publishing, graphic arts and technology. Most recently he served as executive vice president of business development for Unimac Graphics, a leading commercial printer. Apostol also spent 24 years at Agfa Corporation, where he rose to vice president of sales and marketing and helped transform the company from a film-based business into a highly successful digital solutions provider. "Buzz brings a wealth of industry knowledge and sales experience to this key role," said Richard Herbert, president of Pantone. "He has seen the publishing industry move from a heavy reliance on film to digital systems and the innovations that transition spawned. His knowledge of evolving industries, experience introducing customers to innovative technology solutions and his leadership and success growing sales channels will all play a role in our future growth."

Troy MI: Gary Topolewski leaves Chemistri to join BBDO Worldwide as chief creative officer. Working from the firm 's Detroit office, he will collaborate with Bill Morden on all Chrysler Group campaigns. Topolewski 's departure from Chemistri, where he was chairman and chief creative officer and directed the General Motors account, is considered a surprise. Prior to Chemistri, he held creative management posts at McCann Erickson, TBWA/Chiat/Day and DMB&B.

New York NY: The New York metropolitan area is graced by two well-known paper people representing International Paper. Christine Pavacic is appointed a specification sales representative for the writing, text and cover business of International Paper. She has represented both coated and uncoated mills in sales and specification capacities. Pavacic has a B.S. in Business Administration from Long Island University. Lynn McCarthy, with 25 years experience in the field, is now a sales representative for the writing, text and cover business, with a focus on merchants in the metro area. The announcements were made by Ray Rabbit, regional sales manager for IP 's commercial printing and imaging papers.

Ann Arbor MI: Advertising and graphic design agency Wagner Design adds Kathy Roeser to its creative team. Now a senior art director, she is responsible for print and digital projects. The experienced Roeser was formerly director of creative services at Sun Graphics and, more recently, a partner in RK Media, a firm specializing in print, presentation and internet work. Roser is a graduate of the University of Michigan.

Omaha NE: A former Bozell & Jacobs intern, Carl Avidano, rejoins the agency as a graphic artist. Avidano, who holds an associate 's degree in graphic design from the Creative Center in Omaha, has also freelanced for Bozell 's interactive and advertising divisions, where he worked on the United Way of the Midlands, College World Series of Omaha, YWCA and First National Bank accounts.

Louisville CO: CTA Public Relations hires Steve Werling as senior graphic designer. Werling brings to the firm extensive graphic, web, video and multi-media design experience. Prior to joining CTA he served as creative production manager for Epicenter Creative. Before that he ran his own consulting service, Media Fusion. CTA principal Carl Thompson says of the hire, "With the recent increase in new business at our firm, it 's refreshing to be adding to staff again."
