St. Louis MO: Falk Harrison Creative, a leading regional graphic design and communications firm, announced a significant realignment of its leadership structure. Robert Falk, founder of the company, assumed a senior consulting role, modifying his former day-to-day involvement with the company. Stephen Harrison has been named president and shares management responsibilities with Jonathan and Matthew Falk. Previously, Harrison was the firmís creative director and senior vice president.

Farmingdale ME: Graphic artist Alan Claude redesigned his United Symbol, first created on September 13, 2001, in response to the events of 9.11. The redesign maintains the original design - a vertical interpretation of an American flag with black strips above and below - but changes the text from ìWe will not tolerate terrorism!î to ìUnited We Stand.î The symbol became hugely popular, even attracting the attention of President Bush. Claude lived in San Francisco for 20 years before moving his studio into a barn in Maine. The new symbol can be seen online, at www.alanclaude.com.

Chicago IL: Karen Rafeedie, formerly an associate creative director at the Chicago-based brand agency McCarroll, has been upped to senior associate creative director. She now oversees creative and brand development for a number of McCarroll clients. Since joining the firm in 2001, Rafeedie has led the creative initiative on accounts including Elmhurst Memorial Healthcare, Bronson Healthcare Group and Panned Parenthood, Chicago.

Orlando FL: Cramer-Krasselt’s Orlando office receives an injection of New York talent with the addition of Jessica Gill as graphic designer. In her new role, she is working on a variety of accounts, including The Outer Banks of North Carolina Visitors Bureau and R-G Crown Bank. Prior to the appointment, Gill served as a graphic designer for Reactions Communications, a division of Point of You Advertising. She is an RIT graduate. Joe Bouch is the general manager of C-K’s Orlando office.

New York NY: Two new creatives, Maiken Erstad and Kimberly Young, have been invited to join the New York City office of Dragon Rouge. Erstad is a senior designer, while Young joins the international branding and package design firm as a designer. Erstad was previously design director at NiCE Ltd., where she oversaw project development from the conceptual stage to final mechanics. She has also held various design positions in Scotland, where she attended the Glasgow School of Art. She is proficient in several foreign languages. Kimberly Young is a recent graduate of the Fashion Institute of Technology, where she earned a B.F.A. in packaging design. She had previously been a junior designer at Cuticone Design and Kick Design before matriculating at FIT. Erstad and Young both report to Dragon Rouge creative director Kim Kelse Glooch.

Hollister CA: Redbeard Communications, a brand strategy and creative design firm, recently welcomed Cheryl Cernigoj as the newest member of its creative crew. In her post as graphic designer, Cernigoj designs and produces an assortment of advertising and promotional ventures. A frequent award winner, Cernigoj worked as a graphic designer at Never Boring Design on corporate advertising, identity and promotional pieces. She received her B.A. in communication design from California State University, Chico.

Boston MA: Reggie Meyers has moved across the country to begin a new position as art director of the Boston Globe. To do so, he had to leave his Tacoma, Washington, job as art director at The News Tribune. Of his departure, Fred Matamoros of The News Tribune writes, “His talents will be missed in this newsroom, his church (he’s a very busy musician) and as an art teacher at elementary schools in lower-income areas.”

New York NY: David Lubars hired Kara Goodrich in 1992 for his Providence-based agency, Leonard, Monahan, Lubars and Kelley. 12 years later, he has done it again, this time for BBDO New York. Goodrich joined BBDO as creative director. In her new role, she reports to Lubars as she oversees print creative development for numerous clients. Prior to joining BBDO, she was a creative director at Euro RSCG, where she was in charge of development for Volvo and Evian.

Agawam MA: Southworth Company, a producer and marketer of fine cotton-fiber paper, recently promoted Jay Mulligan to director of marketing. In the newly created position, Mulligan is responsible for the development of marketing and promotional strategies for existing and new products through retail and commercial channels. The promotion is well-deserved: Mulligan has been an integral part of Southworth’s creative team since 1999, having helped redesign the company’s website. He has also played a central role in the development of user-friendly CDs for Southworth’s Wedding and Letterhead Office Suite products, as well as the new Create Your Own Certificates and Borders product lines.

Las Vegas NV: What’s On, The Las Vegas Guide has added two new graphic designers to the venture. In their new roles, Karen Kunz and Glincy Alejandro are primarily responsible for story layouts and advertising designs. Kunz left Seattle, where she attended the Art Institute of Seattle, to join the What’s On staff. Alejandro, a Las Vegas resident of three years, was raised in Tennessee and holds a degree in fine arts from the University of Memphis. Before leaving her home state, she worked for the Memphis Arts Festival. What’s On, The Las Vegas Guide bills itself as the complete resource for “buffets, dining, tours, attractions, shopping, gambling, weddings, hotels, golf, show tickets and more.”

Minneapolis MN: Mike Fetrow is the new creative director at Colle+McVoy. Fetrow spent several years working at Saatchi & Saatchi and Goldberg Moser O’Neil in San Francisco, as well as serving as a partner at One and All. He also held positions at Fallon, Hunt Murray and Bozell. Fetrow was selected after a national search and joined the agency in late August. John Jarvis, the previous creative director, is now the president and will remain chief creative director of Colle+McVoy. Jarvis notes, “Mike looks the part of a creative guy with that little goatee-type thing on his chin and a tendency to wear his shirts untucked.” Colle+McVoy deals with advertising, public relations, direct marketing and interactive services for their clients, which include Nestlé Purina, Bayer, Honda and more.

Buffalo NY: P22 type foundry has added Terry Wüdenbachs to its States-side type development team. Wüdenbachs has worked previously on fonts for P22's International House of Fonts division as a freelancer. He now oversees font development projects from Buffalo. Wüdenbachs had split his time between native Liechtenstein (where he designed and rode snowboards for Team Liechtenstein) and New York through much of the late 90s. His recent work at the firm of Puterschein & Chalet in his native town of Vaduz has won him the prince's medal for typography.

New York NY: Imagestate, a global rights managed and royalty free visual media provider, recently announced the appointment of two seasoned executives to its management team. Jeffrey Shear joins as chief information officer, while David Harrigan assumes the role of chief creative officer. Shear was previously a vice president of business design and operations at Corbis. Harrigan, who has also left Corbis to join Imagestate, had served as director of commercial photography, Europe. Comments Imagestate ceo Leslie Hughes on the hirings, “David and Jeff bring Imagestate the experience and vision that we need to be able to build and deliver visual media to a very broad and diverse marketplace.”

Charlotte NC: Brand development firm BOLT expands its Charlotte office as it fastens onto two new graphic designers, Sally Jenkins and Andy Kiser. Jenkins, a graduate of the College of Design at NC State, works in the fashion design staff and is responsible for fashion clients’ brand development. Kiser joins as a full-time graphic designer and is working on both fashion retail and home improvement accounts. He, too, graduated with a B.A. in graphic design from NC State’s College of Design.
