Grant Heilman Photography
Grant Heilman Photography is the most noted source of agricultural photography. Grant Heilman began marketing his imagery in 1948. Since then, the library has grown to more than a half million images, including a vintage collection of black and white photos showcasing farm life during the Great Depression and beyond. The library is aptly situated in bucolic Lancaster County PA. Not resting on its laurels, the company is expanding, having acquired, effective January 1, Photo Network Stock, the quarter-century-old, Southern California-based stock agency. Photo Network Stock’s founder and owner, Cathy Aron, recently accepted an offer from the Picture Archive Council of America (PACA) to become its executive director. Grant Heilman president, Sonia Wasco, says that “adding Photo Network’s library of lifestyle images will allow us to further fulfill the needs of our existing clients and open up new markets to clients we have not been able to reach.”

Hemera
Hemera creates and sells royalty-free digital images to the consumer, business and creative professional markets. Hemera's image products are available via two websites — hemera.com (clip art, illustration and photo objects) and ablestock.com (high resolution, royalty free imagery via subscription or single download.) Hemera recently added visual search capabilities to both sites, allowing users to find images with similar colors, themes and compositions with just one click. “The visual search element offers our customers a brand new way to explore image collections creatively,” says Alan M. Meckler, chairman and ceo of Jupitermedia Corporation, which now owns the sites. The new search engines on Hemera Image Express and AbleStock.com have been enhanced by Idee Inc.’s Espion Visual Search, a technology that analyzes the pixels in each image and creates a searchable index of colors, patterns and compositions in online image collections. When reviewing the results of an initial keyword search, users can now look for visually similar images by clicking the visual search button on the search results page. Users have the option to use the visual search feature with or without entering keywords.

Hillstock
Hillstock is an independently owned, nostalgic graphics shop that sells old-fashioned clip art from The Hillstock Collection. The company was founded upon the belief that “New isn’t always improved!” All images undergo digital restoration and enhancement and are then transformed into unique collections. Principal Averyl Hill was originally inspired to start the company by her grandmother’s collection of Victorian “scraps” and other ephemera. She says that “many of the early American illustrators embraced an innocence and magic that modern society craves.” Companies are licensing Hillstock designs for advertising, marketing and product lines including greeting cards, posters, decorative tins, retail gifts and the like.
