New Design For Oldest Monthly
Winterhouse Studio has redesigned Poetry magazine. Poetry, founded in Chicago in 1912, is the longest-running monthly magazine devoted to verse in the English-speaking world. William Drenttel and Jessica Helfand are principals in the studio.
Building Sin City
To help fulfill his stark vision for the movie "Sin City," based on the hardboiled graphic novels of Frank Miller, director Robert Rodriguez shot the actors on greenscreen and turned to CaféFX to create "grimy, weathered, lived-in" computer graphics backgrounds for one of the three episodes captured in the film. CaféFX built Sin City from the ground up, borrowing from the original comic panels, taking their own photos of period L.A. architecture and studying urban scenes from the film noir genre. Credits go to, among others, visual effects producer was Edward Irastorza, art director Peter Lloyd, and digital effects supervisor Everett Burrell. (Hybrid and The Orphanage produced the other two stories as co-visual effects vendors.)
Birds Of A Feather
This ornately crafted deck of eight cards announces the opening of a new design firm, Principle. The "Birdie Cards" represent each of Principle's three offices (in Baltimore, Cleveland and Quebec City) with its respective state or provincial bird. The deck is enclosed in a small muslin bag.
