500 and COUNTING

We thought long and hard about how best to note GDUSA's 500th issue, but in the end the decision was easy: We chose to ask our readers about their views on some provocative and fun topics, because, quite frankly, we enjoy hearing from you.

Here are the results of a massive, if not completely scientific, survey about who you respect and what you like. It includes the sublime, for example, your choice of Milton Glaser as the "most influential" graphic designer of the era, followed by Paul Rand, Saul Bass and Massimo Vignelli and David Carson; the practical, such as your choice of the Mac computer as the product you cannot live without; the sweet, as in spending time with family as your favorite non-work activity; and the ridiculous, with Madonna and Elvis as your top pop icons, with votes for Bart Simpson and Bill Clinton, as well.

We look forward to your reactions and will leave plenty of space for letters to the editor as the next few issues unfold.
