YOU CAN LEAD A CREATIVE TO WATER
Brooklyn NY
The self-described "brand incubators" at thread Communications have done something unprecedented. Thirsty for a business opportunity, the Brooklyn-based creatives launched their own bottled water brand. Thread positioned Fred as a friendly bottled water "with a personality, a social life, a point of view." The team took an unusual approach to the project, too. Eschewing hierarchy, thread CEO Adam Gayner brainstormed the launch with the creative director Ariel Broggi, the illustrator Kurt Huggins and the photographer Steve Hellerstein of Steve Hellerstein Studio. Says Gayner, "[W]hen input includes all points of view from the beginning, not only is the work better, but it's more efficient."

BBC LOGO SPARKS NEW BRITISH INVASION
Los Angeles CA
West Coast entertainment branding and marketing firm mOcean developed the new logo, network taglines, IDs and navigation graphics for the BBC America television network. MOcean's graphics package is built around a bold logo comprising three concentric circles in red, white and blue. A lowercase "a" identifies it with the BBC America brand. The "bulls-a," as the mOcean folks refer to the logo, can be animated and treated in a variety of ways to express the channel's personality and irreverence. "We wanted an organic approach that allowed the mark to appear naturally in a number of American environments, a British invasion of sorts, popping up in various and unexpected ways, immersing it in the American landscape," says mOcean CD Dave Thomas.

NUMEROUS WAYS OF IMAGINING OBSESSION
Los Angeles CA
Imaginary Forces, a self-described "conceptual design firm and marketing think tank" based in L.A., designed the main titles for "The Number 23," a new thriller from New Line Productions. In the movie, the main character, Walter Sparrow (played by Jim Carrey), discovers a book that appears to be based on his own life — and which ends in a murder that has yet to happen. Creative Director Michelle Dougherty sought to communicate the obsession and psychological torment of Carrey's character in her title design.
