NEENAH PAPER
LEFT BRAIN AND RIGHT BRAIN
How do you translate visual graphics into logical ideas that clients will accept? Neenah Paper takes on that vexing question in Presenting Identities, the latest promo for the Classic Crest Papers brand. Presenting Identities — created by Farmhouse Design of Atlanta GA — lays out the components that make a business identity complete. It then offers examples and tips about how to present your ideas in a clear, linear and effective manner. For example, the promo suggests: "Use well-known corporate colors like UPS Brown, Coca-Cola Red, IBM Blue to reference the importance of color and its associations." Kristin Carpenter, assistant design and advertising manager for Neenah Paper, explains the goal of Presenting Identities thusly: "We hope to bridge the gap between right brain creatives and left brain strategists. When clients better understand the designer's thought process, they can be more confident when making decisions about their brands and identities."

FINCH PAPER
THINK AGAIN
Ink is ink, right? Not according to a new Finch Paper promotional sample. Ink demonstrates how various types of inks can become key design elements. The 28-page, oversized publication utilizes a variety of innovative inking techniques to display photographs of todays most popular "ink" — tattoos of every shape, size and complexity — and is printed on the Finch Fine grade. Moreover, the piece serves as a tutorial, with detailed production notes and print-perfect tips for maximizing the vibrancy and eye-worthiness of print projects. "Ink can be a very powerful and effective design tool," says Rob DeLuke, the creative director and graphic resources manager for Finch Paper. "And with Finch Fine as your canvas, the impact is all the more impressive." The showcase begins on the cover, where what appears to be foil stamping is actually a lower-cost special effect created by hitting the ink with two coats each of aqueous coating and a clear UV laminate. From there, the fountain of ink techniques, like thermochromics (color-changing) to fluorescents to hi-fi printing, flow fast and furious. All Finch Paper products now carry the certification label of the Sustainable Forestry Initiative (SFI) program, and Finch Fine Text & Cover carries both the SFI label and the Forest Stewardship Council label.
