Our third reader survey on type purchasing and specification was conducted amid several unfolding developments in the graphic design world. First, control of the production and purchasing process in graphic communications continues to move upstream to creative professionals and other content creators. Second, todays digital workflow makes it easier than ever for designers to integrate new and different typefaces into their work. Third, designers are increasingly asked to design for projects across media and across platforms. Fourth, there appears to be less emphasis on traditional typographic training than in the past. Fifth and finally, the ease of buying type online is complementing and accelerating the first four trends.
