Ganton Jr., President; Mark Ganton, Vice President Strategy and Planning brian ganton, jr.Brian Ganton, Jr., is the president and high energy leader of Brian J. Ganton & Associates, a New York City-based marketing, advertising and branding firm that was founded in 1972 by his father, Brian J. Ganton, Sr. Ganton's passion for greatness is contagious, and he doesn't understand the concept of good enough. His persuasiveness is but one of the many qualities that his clients value most about him. In fact, he once convinced the bishop of New York to lend him a rare chalice from the early Christian era for use in an ad campaign. Ganton has over 25 years of experience creating strategic marketing initiatives, advertising campaigns and brand development campaigns for such notables as Pergo Laminate Flooring, Skoal, Copenhagen, Astral Cigars, Lightolier, Contel, Simon & Schuster, Reader's Digest, Newell Rubbermaid and Oldcastle. He has taken hundreds of national and international awards, including several gold medals for creativity and effectiveness, from the ADDY Awards, Creativity, PRINT, HOW, the American Graphic Design Awards, the New Jersey Advertising Club, the Art Directors Club of New Jersey, Graphis and the McGraw Hill Advertising Role Model Awards. Ganton's work has also appeared in Step-By-Step Graphics, Minimal Graphics and The Big Book of Color. Is graphic design a growth industry? The creative aspect of what we do is what attracted most of us to this profession. But what we do, in fact, is help businesses to grow and flourish. Helping our clients have a brighter future is really what it's all about. I believe there will always be unlimited growth potential in that. Do graphic designers have a special responsibility to promote a green society? Apart from our moral values and the best interests of future generations, our clients are very keen to be good citizens of our planet. They are looking for progressively greener solutions from us. It is incumbent upon our profession to think not only about the here and now but also about the impact of our creations on the future. ONE THING I CAN'T LIVE WITHOUT IS definitely my familyFAVORITE MOVIESIt's A Wonderful Life is a poignant portrayal how one person makes a difference. The Godfather is a great story and wonderfully acted; every frame in the movie is lit and shot like a beautiful still photograph. My Cousin Vinny is simply hilarious. FAVORITE BOOKSThere is no better depiction of the struggle between art and commerce than The Fountainhead by Ayn Rand. In Breakfast of Champions, Kurt Vonnegut paints the most vivid word pictures of any author. I first read Ogilvy on Advertising by David Ogilvy in 1983, and it's still relevant today; I use things I learned in that book on almost a daily basis. FAVORITE BOOKS
"Letter from Home" by Pat Metheny FAVORITE FINE ARTISTSHenri Matisse's work is so graphic, and his use of color is unmatched. Rene Magritte is a source of personal inspiration to me. Mark Rothko's work is simultaneously serene and powerful. FAVORITE TV SHOWSThe writing and characters on Cheers are incredible. 24 reminds me of our business. Every day a crisis arises, and we have 24 hours to find a solution—or else! I watched The Andy Griffith Show in reruns when I was a kid, and I still love it.
