PEOPLETOWATCHTed Stanaszek

Ted Stanaszek has swept floors, stocked shelves, padded paper, made deliveries, roofed houses, torn down buildings and been a bouncer — but for the past 24 years, he has been the Creative Director and now the Managing Director of SGDP, a graphic design and marketing communications firm that works with big corporations as well as small companies and nonprofit organizations to create lasting connections with their most important audiences. Stanaszek studied painting with Eugene Hall and met his wife at The American Academy of Art in the early eighties. He has two incredibly bright and creative children, and plays guitar and golf. Stanaszek's father was a printer and his mom is an artist "so I guess you can say I was destined to join the family business," he says. The firm merged with Arnold Goodwin Communications in the late nineties. Together, they created an evolved design firm that brings together designers, writers and strategists that work together in a collaborative process with its client partners to help them take advantage of their most challenging brand and communication opportunities. " I work with an amazing group of creative people that bring energy and passion to everything they do. We like to think of ourselves as innovators and change agents, we want to do great work, together, and always look forward to the next challenge," Stanaszek says.

In this economic downturn, name one thing you have done to weather the tough times. We are a client-centered organization so we are making sure that we continue to deliver on that promise. If our clients are successful, we will be successful.

If you weren't a designer, what would you be? When I started out in this business I thought that if things didn't work out I could always drive a cab.

What's the one thing ALWAYS in your bag that you never leave home without? A handful of Pilot P-500 Extra Fine Point Pens, I love those pens.

If you could spend 15 minutes talking to any person, living or dead, who would it be and why? Thomas Jefferson about democracy, Jesus about religion, DaVinci about creativity, Miles Davis about music, Keith Richards about rock and roll, Ben Hogan about golf, Louis Sullivan about architecture, Knute Rockne about football and my grandmother because I miss her.

If you could work for anyone, a client or on a project, what would it be? My dream job would be the guy that handed the paintbrushes to Michelangelo when he was painting the Sistine Chapel.

ONE THING I CAN'T LIVE WITHOUT IS My wife Valerie. She makes my life possible.

READING
Orthodoxy by G.K. Chesterton. A brilliant mind that is a light in the darkness.

FAVORITE TV SHOWS
I am way too old for it but my favorite TV show right now is Entourage. I can't decide if I want to be Ari or Turtle.

FAVORITE MOVIES
The Godfather. Brando, DeNiro, Pacino, are you kidding me! This year, The Diving Bell and the Butterfly - a beautiful movie about the value and dignity of every life.

FAVORITE MUSIC, BAND, SONG
Willie Nelson. Forget everything you think you know about him and listen to his record "Spirit." He channels Django Reinhardt.

NEW YEARS' RESOLUTIONS
This year instead of trying to lose weight, I am going to try to grow hair.
