Academy of Art University
The Academy of Art University, in the heart of San Francisco, has over 13,000 students, making it the largest private school of art and design in the country. The school offers accredited AA, BFA, M.Arch and MFA programs in 14 different majors, as well as continuing art education with classes in copywriting, fashion merchandising, interior design, new media, computer animation, sculpture, graphic design, cinematography, industrial design, digital photography and car design. Multimedia Communications is the newest major, offering BA and MA degrees. In addition to on-campus study, students can also enroll in a flexible online degree program in art and design. The institution was established in 1929 by Richard S. Stephens, a fine artist and creative director, to teach advertising art. Early on, the school’s philosophy became clear: hire established professionals to teach future professionals. In 1951, Stephens’ son Dr. Richard A. Stephens stepped to the helm and expanded Academy from a few dozen students to a 5,200. Dr. Elisa Stephens, granddaughter of the founder, took over in 1992. She broadened the Academy’s curriculum in order to reflect new technologies and industry trends.

Adobe
For more than a quarter century, Adobe has been revolutionizing how the world engages with ideas and information. The company’s software and technologies have redefined business, entertainment and personal communications by setting new standards for producing and delivering engaging content. Its portfolio contains many of the most respected and recognizable software brands such as Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, Dreamweaver and Acrobat. The introduction of Adobe Creative Suite 3 in 2007 was the company’s largest initiative yet and increased revenues a record 21%; Adobe Creative Suite 4 is another technology breakthrough but has reportedly lagged in sales below the company’s expectations. Much of Adobe’s longstanding success centers on its innovative corporate culture: the company ranked number 40 on Fortune Magazine’s 2008 “Best Places to Work For” list, its eighth year running. And just last fall, Adobe announced the formation of the Adobe Foundation, and its flagship community program, Adobe Youth Voices, which gives pre-teen and teenage youths in underserved communities the critical skills they need to become active and engaged members of their communities and the world at large.
