Kenneth Cole Book Fashionably Designed
A new book for fashion designer Kenneth Cole — Awearness: Inspiring
Stories About How to Make a Difference — features interviews with dozens
of individuals whose participation in social causes have contributed to a better
world. Anke Stohlman Design of Brooklyn NY teamed with Kenneth Cole creatives
and illustrator Andy Pressman to design the content, which was originally compiled
as a companion piece to the fashion designer’s blog. Because photography
was user-generated in a wide variety of styles and sizes, Stohlmann developed a
uniform framework of black-and-white halftones to give the book a more consistent
look and feel, while allowing for individual expression. Publisher is Melcher Media.

Natural Beauty Shines Through
Revlon recently launched Almay Pure Blends makeup line, building on the
brand’s “natural beauty” positioning. Package design by
Anthem Worldwide, a Schawk Strategic Design Company, features clean backgrounds,
soft pink floral patterns, and subtle typography to suggest the line’s organic
ingredients. At the same time, the creative team at Anthem Worldwide’s New
York office used transparent materials and diecut windows to display the
makeup’s luminous colors. Print and tv ads and the packaging’s
recycled materials reinforce the message of natural ingredients.

Skiwear Campaign Is A Crime
Cultivator Advertising & Design has incorporated a Yakuza-inspired graphic
novel as part of a campaign for Spyder Active Sports and its Venom ski-wear
brand. Print ads feature an ongoing, textless, graphic story of a Japanese mob
transaction gone bad. Covering approximately the bottom quarter of at least six
back cover and spread ads, a serialized novel plays out in black-and-white
silhouette. The tie-in: the graphic inspiration for this year’s Spyder Venom
collars, cuffs and pockets came from patterns found in Japanese organized crime
culture. Credits go to Creative Director/Copywriter Tim Abare and Art
Director/Copywriter/Illustrator August Sandberg; Erik Seo and Dan Carr share
photography credits.
