Modern Dog Posters Locate Sasquatch
Modern Dog Design Co. designed four posters that helped Washingtonians
locate Sasquatch this Memorial Day. Not the mythical Bigfoot, but the
popular Sasquatch Music Festival held each year at the Gorge
Amphitheater. Posters featured major bands: Kings of Leon by
Michael Strassburger, Ben Harper by Shogo Ota, M. Ward by Robert
Zwiebel, and Explosions in the Sky by Robynne Raye. It’s a
fun project with relatively few restrictions, according to the
Seattle WA-based Modern Dog team, who report trying to “one
up” each other in the office through the design process.
Among the tidbits: Raye says she used Ota’s paint-covered big
toe to make the drip for her Explosions in the Sky.

live from bklyn Solves Earth Day Puzzle
To build excitement and participation for its Earth Day festivities,
L’Oréal instituted a contest for employees. The cosmetics
firm asked live from bklyn to create a rebus puzzle — which
uses pictures to represent words or parts of words — and they
wanted it to have a vintage feel with a modern edge. The graphic
design firm divided the puzzle into eight sections and placed it
online. Employees were asked to vote for sections of the puzzle
to be revealed. The two sections with the most votes were revealed
each day until all were uncovered and/or the puzzle was solved. The
rebus deciphers as “for the beauty of the environment,”
L’Oréal’s sustainability mantra.

THEY Melds Drama And Dining
Amsterdam advertising agency THEY drew on vintage and stock
photography for a series of dramatic posters, flyers and bus
shelters to promote the new restaurant hot spot Stanislavski, after
the famous theater director of the same name. Located in the
center of the Leidseplein at the beautiful Stadsschouwburg
municipal theater, the cafe and bar’s positioning is
“drama meets dining.” The THEY team is made up
of ex KesselsKramer, BBDO and Heineken creatives.
