DEBBIE MILLMAN
PRESIDENT, AIGA BOARD OF DIRECTORS, NEW YORK NY
Branding expert Debbie Millman, a partner and president of the
design division at Sterling Brands, takes the helm at the AIGA. Millman,
a respected voice in the design field, replaces outgoing president Sean
Adams of Adams Morioka, who remains involved in an ex officio role. As
the AIGA approaches its centennial in 2014, Millman says the organization
needs to look hard at is activities and positioning alongside the needs
of the design profession. As a result, she writes in an introduction letter,
“we’ve adopted a bold new course for meeting our mission
to advance designing as a professional craft, strategic tool and vital cultural
force.” Among her many roles, Millman also is an instructor at
the School of Visual Arts and Fashion Institute of Technology, and chair
of SVA’s forthcoming Masters of Professional Studies in Branding.
She hosts a weekly internet talk show on the VoiceAmerica Business
network titled Design Matters and has authored two books.
“We must break down the barriers separating our specialties and
work together to design the change the world needs.”
