A new company has launched in Venice, CA called Mothership. A sister company to VFX facility Digital Domain, Mothership develops transmedia content for ad agencies and brands, and has brought on an international roster of directing talent, including Robert Hales, Sil Van DerWoerd, Pierre Michel, Dael Oates, Matthew Santoro, Brent Bonacorso, David Rosenbaum, Happycamper and Nathan Love. Guiding the ship a Digital Domain Commercials Division President and Executive Producer Ed Ulbrich, Executive Creative Director Alejandro Lopez, and Executive Producer Tanya Cohen. As a sister company to Academy Award-winning Digital Domain, Mothership has access to the studio's technological infrastructure and Hollywood pedigree. Of the launch, Ulbrich explains: "Consumer demand for compelling content on connected devices creates an enormous opportunity for advertisers. To capture it, agencies need integrated cross-platform strategies and creative services, and they're turning to companies who can execute a brand vision from concept to completion."

FITCHJames Sundstad joins FITCH as managing director of the Seattle studio. Sundstad brings an international perspective to the brand strategy and design firm, having founded and led award-winning design practices in Seattle and London in the past two decades. He will continue to develop relationships with clients including Microsoft, Cisco and Reed Elsevier in his new role, as well as integrating FITCH's multidisciplinary capabilities.
FITCHFITCH promotes Rebecca Richards to design director with responsibility for overseeing the Seattle studio's creative strategies and executions. She was previously senior designer, and before joining the firm, Richards ran her own business, designed annual reports at Leimer Cross Design for several major clients, and founded a non-profit organization which produced museum caliber publications.
Proverb, Boston MAKyle Marcella joins brand strategy firm Proverb, Boston MA, as an Art Director and Designer. Previously, he was at KM Design and Advertising, which he co-founded and where he served as Creative Director. Marcella also worked at Arnold Worldwide as an associate creative director. Proverb, clients include Bacardi, MIT and Bermuda Department of Tourism.

Greteman Group has elevated Garrett Fresh to Senior Art Director. Fresh joined the company as an intern while completing his degree in graphic design at Wichita State University; upon graduation in 1998, he joined the agency full-time. Fresh has been an American Institute of Graphic Arts lecturer, AIGA student-portfolio forum judge and Wichita State University art and design lecturer. At the same time, the Wichita-based branding agency promotes Marc Bosworth to Art Director. He joined the firm in 2004 after earning a bachelor of fine arts and drawing from Arizona State University and a masters in printmaking with additional emphasis on sculpture from Wichita State University. Previously, Bosworth worked as a graphic designer for more than 15 years. During his time at the agency, he has created brand extensions and updates, collateral and illustrations to support such clients as ArtAID, Dean & Deluca and Dallas Airmotive.
Christine Ray, visual strategist and client services director at Estudio Ray, was selected as a judge for the hospitality Sales and Marketing Association International Adrian Awards. Ray's selection is said to reflect the depth of expertise reached by Phoenix AZ-based Estudio Ray in marketing travel and hospitality brands in the past 15 years.
Limerick Studios adds Thom Blackburn to the firm as Executive Creative Director of the Charlotte NC operation. For the past decade, Blackburn has worked on the West Coast in motion EFX and production but “my persistence has finally brought him back to the South,” says Mike Kelley, who heads the design studio, adding that he and Blackburn had worked together at ESPN earlier in their careers. Blackburn's “expertise and insights embody the values of Limerick and is a strategic move to take our firm to the next level,” said Kelley of the new hire.
e-Integrity adds Jessica Kruzel as a graphic designer after a lengthy search among 400 applicants. Kruzel is a recent graduate of Quinnipiac University, and while studying she garnered a prestigious internship at Fox News in the web technologies department. At the Stratford CT company, she's responsible for user interface and marketing collateral design for clients.
Marsh, Inc. in Cincinnati OH hires Sydney Stoehr as project manager, with responsibility for client meeting coordination and managing key corporate projects. Stoehr was previously a Wilderness Trip Head Leader at Camp Ogichi. She has a bachelor of arts in organizational communication and Latin American studies from Miami University of Ohio.
TIME names D.W. Pine as new Design Director, stepping up from the deputy position following the departure of Arthur Hochstein. Pine will be assisted by Cindy Hoffman. Before joining TIME nine years ago, Pine was features design director at the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, where he also worked as a sportswriter. Hochstein meantime will continue as a contributing designer.
Paul Suggett joins Amélie Company, a Denver CO-based advertising, public relations and marketing firm, as Creative Director. He brings more than 13 years of international advertising and marketing experience the job. Suggett spent the past five years as a creative leader at Starz Entertainment Group. He began his career in London at TBWA Direct and Tequila working on accounts such as Nissan, Weight Watchers and British Telecom. Several years later, his contributions at HPT Brand Response, for clients including Virgin and Vodafone, helped earn the company “Direct Agency of the Year,” in the UK. Suggett has a BA in visual communications from England's De Montfort University.
The Society for News Design appoints veteran board member and industry leader Stephen Komives as Executive Director, ending an international search process coordinated in five countries. Komives has been Design Director at the Orlando Sentinel for the past five years. He succeeds Elise Burroughs, the society's head since 2004.
Schawk, Inc. names Chris Plewes as Chief Creative Officer, underscoring Schawk's commitment to elevating the role of creative in its brand point management offering. Plewes served Anthem Worldwide, Schawk's strategic design company, in creative leadership roles since 2001. In his new role, Plewes reports directly to Schawk's President and Chief Executive Officer David A. Schawk.
Scott Tripp has opened Tripp Co. Creative to serve the St. Louis Metro area. The firm offers one-stop-shop, personalized branding solutions. Services include custom web and graphic design, marketing and advertisement consultation, audio/video services and illustration and photography. Tripp says the firm wants to support the creative arts and will offer substantial discounts on services for independent artists, musicians, film makers and non-profit theater organizations.
HartungKemp of Minneapolis MN hires designer Danielle Tornquist, a 2008 graduate of the University of Minnesota's graphic design program. Tornquist exhibited her work in juried shows while a student, and completed two internships before joining HartungKemp.
