ANTOINETTE WESTPHALL COLLEGE OF MEDIA ARTS & DESIGN
In South Philadelphia where April Moralba was born and raised, she is most comfortable walking on uneven pavement and eating a cheesesteak. Currently a senior at Drexel University, she is majoring in Graphic Design with a minor in Psychology. Moralba says she has always been obsessed with making things: painting, drawing, knitting, crocheting, bookmaking, photography, sewing, and anything else she can create with her hands. As a type addict, she is constantly looking and collecting images for inspiration. Right now, she’s working on several class projects, producing printed materials for various departments around the University, and freelancing.
What made you decide to go to design school?
Before knowing what typography was, I was obsessed with letterforms and their usage. These beautiful little symbols were the keys to communication. I started college majoring in Psychology. I’m fascinated with how people interact, communicate and behave with objects, within spaces and especially with each other. But my insatiable need to create made me turn to design. I firmly believe graphic design is about problem solving especially in regards to the human experience. The possibilities are endless. It’s the perfect marriage between my interest in human behavior and my passion for visual communications.
