FULL SAIL UNIVERSITY
As a teenager Consuela Brooks was interested in graffiti. When she moved to New York, she was submerged in it. Brooks dabbled in writing, but when it came time for college, she says she changed majors plenty of times before focusing on design and marketing. Before entering Full Sail University, Brooks spent a year studying fashion design; worked as a fashion stylist with a photographer who taught her how to edit digital photography in Photoshop; became interested in photographing graffiti; and pursued a certificate in Web Design from the Art Institute. Wanting to learn more about mixed media and graphics, Brooks then enrolled in the Digital Arts and Design Bachelor of Science degree program at Full Sail. She has worked closely with Platinum Creative, the school’s inhouse design firm, and currently interns at ad agency Different Perspective.
What made you decide to go to design school?
I spent a year studying fashion design. I loved what I had learned. I then started styling for a photographer, helping with graphics and retouching photos. This was extremely interesting. Some time after that, I interned for The FADER magazine and decided I wanted to study graphic design.
Has it been a positive experience?
My experience with Full Sail University has been positive. I can see how much I have grown as an artist in two short years. I am way more comfortable with my instruments, so it’s freeing me up for creative thought. Since this became a mini-dream, it was awesome to be able fulfill it. Something seemingly so small made me feel very big.
