Kevin Budelmann
PRESIDENT, ASSOCIATION OF PROFESSIONAL
DESIGN FIRMS (APDF), GRAND RAPIDS MI
Kevin Budelmann, a partner at Peopledesign, is the new President of the Association of Professional Design Firms (APDF), a multidisciplinary network dedicated to sharing ideas about the business of design. Budelmann says he plans to position the group as a key player in defining the future of the design profession, one that creates opportunities for best practice information exchange to benefit its members. He also plans to advocate for industry associations APDF, AIGA, DMI, IDSA lxDA, GDC, RGD and SEGD to create a unified message on the future of design in a multidisciplinary world, arguing that such organizations share a common core philosophy and that a single voice can help elevate design as a whole. A co-author of Brand Identity Essentials published last year with Yang Kim and Curt Wozniak Budelmann has been a student of the inner workings of many businesses in many industries for the past 15 years, learning about how messages travel, how leaders communicate, how sales stories are crafted and told, and how to connect clients with their customers. He has a BFA from Carnegie Mellon, where he studied computer interface design "before it was cool," and pursued further study at The School of Design in Switzerland. Peopledesign, headed by Budelmann and partner Yang Kim, has 25 employees and is based in Grand Rapids MI.
