Poster Star Named Sport Artist of Year
|
In a legendary career spanning four decades,
Primo Angeli has created dozens of celebratory Olympic posters.
These include the groundbreaking Atlanta Games poster in 1996
recognizing female athleticism, and the official poster for the
games in Nagano, Japan in 1998, Sydney, Australia in 2000, and Salt
Lake City in 2002 ‒ as well as San Francisco's unfulfilled
bid for the 2012 games, and a current
black-and-white “London Calling” work which
represented America in a recent global USOC competition.
Angeli’s achievements are getting its due this fall when
his alma mater, Southern Illinois University, holds a retrospective
of his work, and the U.S. Sports Academy fetes him as “2013
Sport Artist of the Year.” This fall also sees the publication
by Angeli, who led Primo Angeli Design International in San
Francisco for 30 years, of a book of all his posters, including the
Olympic works and his 1998 World Cup classic.
